In April Show and Tell
I have sewn all my improv blocks, and tested out a few quilt top arrangements. The first photo shows setting by colour, more white on the top, black grounding the bottom, and groupings of the accent colours. The secong photo I sorted the blocks by size, and then laid them in columns- much easier for assembly! I will try even more permutations before I get to sewing the quilt top in May:). As I look at the pictures, I realize both arrabgements are rectangular, so next I have to play with a square lay out.

In The Name Game
I have a long name, and I all my life I've been squishing it into the space provided. So with this name tag, I started by drawing out all the letters on Steam-a-Seam 2 Lite and fusing this to black fabric. Then I measured how long my name was and cut out the light purple background. I want to emphasize that I DREW all the letters backwards, as this is the paper/glue on the back of the letters. When it came to cutting out the letters- alas I cut one E wrong:(. Ignored the pen marks on the paper and just cut out a regular E. I decided not to correct this, and keep a memory of how even good planning doesn't guarantee a great outcome, if you are not paying attention. I used two layers of batting to make a sturdy tag, quilted it with straight lines right across the letters and background, and folded the extra backing over top as a binding. Attach the strap from my Quiltcon trip to Pasadena and voila, a new name tag! That baby is 8" wide so it is lucky I have broad shoulders to carry around my name😌.
