SLASH & ADD BOX-SWAP PROJECT

Sign up below if you'd like to participate! The fun begins at the October meeting.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!

WHAT IS THE SLASH & ADD BOX-SWAP ALL ABOUT?

It's a "secret" project where each month you "slash & add" to the fat quarter provided by a member of your group (of 5 or 6), and one of your group members does the same to the fat quarter you provided. At the end of the project, your original fat quarter is returned to you with all of your group members' creativity on display!

PARAMETERS OF THE PROJECT

  • Sign up by the end of September.

  • Box-swap is projected to run from October to March with projects being returned to owners at the April EMQG meeting, and final reveal.

  • You are making a commitment to complete your task each month and return it the following month.  If you cannot be present at a meeting, it is your responsibility to ensure that your assignment gets to the next participant and that you get your next box in a timely fashion. Failure to do so may result in a $10 charge.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Bring a box containing a fat quarter and a notebook to the October EMQG. The project coordinator will make sure the right person takes your box and that you receive the correct box to take home.

  1. Choose a"100% quilt worthy" cotton fat quarter (FQ) that you really like. Place it into a box of some sort (hatbox, shoebox, cookie tin, etc.)

  2. In the box, along with the FQ, you must also place a place a small notebook or notepad.

  3. If there is anything you want the other participants to know about your FQ or what you desire for your FQ, write it on the first page of your notebook (e.g. “I hate purple. Please, no purple!”).

YOUR JOB EACH MONTH

1. Examine the FQ (and any previous adds). Read the notes. Let your creative juices flow.

2. Slash the FQ from one side to the opposite side.

  • Horizontal or vertical.

  • Perpendicular or angled.

  • Straight or curved (if you dare).

  • Spread the sections apart.

3. Design, sew and insert your ‘strip’.

  • Try to keep the edges as aligned as possible and the finished piece rectangular.

  • Do your best work with quality quilting cotton because someone is doing the same to your FQ!

  • Leave a note in the notebook if you wish (e.g. “Purple is my favourite color so this was really hard!”)

4. Bring the box (and contents) to the next monthly EMQG meeting to swap again.

5. One slash/insert per participant per monthly FQ assignment.
